Hi folks, Just got done during a shearing demonstration at my wife’s day care center for over 50 kids and ten adults. WoW was that interesting. It always surprises me how kids and adults have not a clue what the sheep business is all about. For example the administrator at first did not want me to bring to school two ewes with their babies because she was afraid that the kids would be scared of them ,plus she said they would make too much of a mess, and the bottom line was she thought the kids weren’t interested in those animals.[even though it was farmer week at this school ] Well after my wife explained that I have done this around the state for different functions the director let me do it. I sheared the ewes on a stand ,half way thru I let all the kids [ and adults] touchy feelly the sheep to have  that experience of what the animals wool felt like before and after. As a result we were the hit for the whole farmers week , not only did the kids enjoy the sheep and getting up close and personal, they all learn something about what my wife and I do besides working at Krogers and at her day care. They all took some wool back home with them to tell their parents what went on at school today , but also educated them about the sheep industry.
Why am I telling you all of this , WE all have to get out there and tell our story, if you can change the opinion of only one kid or in my case one administrator ,it made my wife and I feel that all the hard work we do on the farm someone out there  might get a better understanding on what the sheep industry is all about.
